OTODOT day 30 – I remember one of the first times I went out to help the homeless in the DC area. Being a “Cigar” guy I would take a cigar out to the homeless get to know the homeless. Specifically one day I was talking with a homeless lady she had a big red dog. I enjoyed my cigar and got to know her very well. She was so happy that someone came out to talk. When the time was done she hugged my neck and thanked me for taking time to chat with her. Something simple like a conversation can mean so very much to another person. OTODOT day 29 – As most of you know we do a lot of work with the homeless in the DC area. What struck me at the end of last year one of our homeless friends wanted to do an outreach of his own. He started collecting clothes and going through them and getting things all set up. He asked if T25P could help him do his outreach. This homeless friend has been doing really well and wanted to give back to other homeless people. He was able to get donated clothes and then did the set up completely and was able to give out about 4 bags of clothes to others. That was his One Thing One Day One Time….a homeless guy giving back to other homeless people. Amazing. August 29, 2018August 29, 2018 adminotodot Leave a comment
OTODOT day 28 – While refilling propane tanks for my homeless friends. Another customer lined up behind me. I had 10 tanks to refill. He asked if he could jump in front of me – I replied of course. While waiting for the refills he asked why we had so many propane cans to fill. When I told him we refill them for the homeless so they can heat their tents with mini heaters. The other customer was very interested and he said he would pay for a portion of the propane for us. All of these small other “deeds” are just to show that there are a lot of people doing good things for a lot of people. If we all do One Thing One Day One Time then the world is a better place! OTODOT day 27 – Tents! We have had an extremely wet summer season this year. Some of our homeless friends tents were full of mold and mildew. So T25P put the word out that people were living in mold and mildewed tents. We had tents and money donated to buy new tents for our homeless friends. If you could have seen the smiles when we brought in the new tents over this past weekend. So several other people who donated have done their One Thing One Day One Time! Thank you! One Thing One Day One Time – Day 26 This past July after months of record breaking rain totals, and my gutters were clogged up. I tried calling around for someone to help me, to no avail. In the old days I used to be able to do it myself, but because of my multiple sclerosis I can no longer get up on a ladder. I called my church and other friends and the only person that could come was an old friend. Right after my gutters were clean it started to really rain hard and I no longer had major run off that was going down into my basement. It is so wonderful to have friends that care so much about you. August 26, 2018August 26, 2018 adminotodot Leave a comment
One Thing One Day One Time – day 24- I was talking with one of our homeless friends and she said to me “you know I can knit scarves if I could sell them and make some money”. This was a great idea I thought. I didn’t put on social media. I didn’t talk about it to anyone. I simply thought it was a good idea for her to do. That was it. A few hours later I got an email from a lady asking me if I knew any place that would take yarn…Seriously YARN! We worked out the details to go pick it up the next day. When I got to her house her husband says “are you here for the yarn?” He goes into the house and pulls out three moving bins of yarn. I laughed the whole way to my homeless friend and just thought this was “The Miracle of Yarn”. My homeless friend made a lot of scarves that year and was able to pay herself! One Thing One Day One Time – day 22 – Blue Rhino the propane gas company had heard about The 25th Project and the amount of propane that is consumed out in the camps for our homeless friends. In February 2017 they came down from Fredrick MD to Woodbridge VA early on a Saturday morning. They had 50 cans propane to exchange with our homeless friends. This was their One Thing One Day One Time. August 22, 2018August 23, 2018 adminotodot Leave a comment
OTODOT day 21 – For the last year and a half my friend has sent me a devotional via text every day. Most of the time it has been relevant to something going on in my world for that day. It may seem like a simple thing to do but every day I get a text from my friend. That is her One Thing One Day One time. One Thing One Day One Time – day 20 – Each and every visit to the Virginia area normally involves an event with the 25th project. My husband and I look forward to it and have forged some solid acquaintances with folks at the camps. Recently, for one time in Virginia, I helped prepare Thanksgiving meals to be delivered to the homeless and was fortunate enough to have my in-laws visiting from England, jump up and jump in with both feet to help cook, prepare, wash dishes and deliver Thanksgiving meals. OTODOT day 19 – While at Camp Phoenix in Afghanistan, my brother contacted me and asked if I could think of any ideas for the homeless. We had an upcoming visit planned to the DC area, so I put on my thinking cap. Now, in Afghanistan, our most valued possession is good boots. So sharing the idea with some soldier friends, I soon found several pairs of boots waiting for me at my office. As it got closer to R&R, I found that my luggage would have to be lightened to make room for all these boots that soldiers wanted us to share with the homeless, as many are Vets. So for just one time on a day in May, I gave boots to homeless vets in the park in Washington DC. August 19, 2018August 19, 2018 adminotodot Leave a comment
